Brady Gerber: I’m a writer, music critic, and lifelong learner.

Hello, my name is Brady Gerber.brady-gerber-website-globe

I’m a writer with over a decade of experience writing for New York Magazine, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The Ringer, Interview Magazine, FADER, McSweeney’s, and more.

My work has been cited in The New York Times, AV Club, and my mom’s fridge.

Here are some of my favorite writing samples.

As a freelancer, I specialize in conducting interviews, researching, writing scripts, tailoring my writing to various subjects and house styles (I’m a professional learner), filing clean copy on time, and using the latest tools to transform research into compelling, unforgettable narratives.

Since 2023, I’ve published OPE!, a daily blog and weekly newsletter in which I share my favorite new songs and writings. I also built Candyfloss, a web-scraping RSS feed reader of today’s top music industry news.

Since 2021, I’ve been a guest lecturer at the University of Virginia, teaching students how to break into freelance writing (without a journalism degree) and write the perfect pitch.

I’m a Hoosier and graduate of Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and Semester at Sea, now living in Los Angeles by way of Brooklyn. Contact me at bradywgerber [at] gmail [dot] com.

Here’s what I’m up to—and what I can do for you.

Coding, Technical Writing, and Documentation

In 2021, I completed a full-stack software engineering bootcamp with General Assembly. I love breaking down complex technologies and tools and making them accessible to more developers and users.

  • Fluent in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Python, and SQL, with additional experience in TypeScript, Flask, and AWS
  • Familiar with a wide range of content management systems (especially WordPress), tools and platforms (Figma, Jira, Visual Studio Code, Google Chrome DevTools, Constant Contact), and technical style guides (Google’s Python Style Guide and Airbnb’s JavaScript Style Guide)
  • Certified in Google Analytics 4 by Google and SEO by HubSpot Academy
  • Led as an Agile Scrum Master to help cross-functional remote teams streamline and run daily stand-ups and weekly backlog refinements while establishing internal sources of truth

I especially love crafting SOPs and technical documents.

For Media Clients

I specialize in writing about music and the music industry. As a critic, I focus on the music itself. As a journalist, I focus on the ever-changing technologies and trends that affect our relationship to music. I also write about literature, travel, and neurodiversity. I always strive for clarity—to turn information into storytelling.

Bylines include New York Magazine, Vulture, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The Ringer, Stereogum, FADER, SPIN, Interview Magazine, Bandcamp Daily, McSweeney’s, Lit Hub, and Electric Lit.

For Artists and Musicians

I love interviewing and researching artists and creative professionals to help them tell their stories. What makes us tick, and what drives us to create something? I’ve written bios and notes for CEOs, world-famous classical composers, indie singer-songwriters, and more. At this time, I’m available to assist with bios and liner notes.
