Mekaal Hasan Band (MHB) is a Sufi rock band from Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, and is led by composer-songwriter and guitarist Mekaal Hasan, who is famous for being the first Pakistani to attend Berklee. Hasan’s guitar playing is jazzy and furious, which both soothes and rocks the soul. The rest of the band keeps up as well, combining jazz, classical, soul, and metal into one strange yet engaging sound.
Sufism (also known as Tasawouf) is an esoteric school within Islam that believes that true and divine love comes from the direct and personal experience with God. This niche thinking is a more mystic approach towards Islam that is reflected in the kind of poetry and storytelling that Mekaal Hasan Band combines with Van Halen guitars.
