In April 1951 Jack Kerouac wrote ‘On The Road’ during three straight weeks in this apartment, which is right by the Highline, and on one continuous reel of paper, which was singled spaced and without margins or paragraph breaks. Contrary to popular belief, that reel was revised and edited over several years (the book would finally be published in 1957). However, this humble Chelsea apartment was where it all happened.
